Pinsent Masons advises joint venture on HumeLink East transmission line project in New South Wales

11 Dec 2023 | 03:27 am | 1 min. read

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised the joint venture contractor for the East package of the approximately A$1.4 billion HumeLink project, one of the largest energy infrastructure projects in New South Wales.

The firm advised ACCIONA and GenusPlus Group Ltd (Genus) on the negotiation of the delivery contract, which was signed this week.

The HumeLink project will see the construction of a 500kV transmission line that will connect the New South Wales regional centres of Wagga Wagga, Bannaby and Maragle. The transmission line will consist of 360 kilometres of new lines, and new or upgraded infrastructure at three locations. The project is designed to transmit energy from the Snowy Hydro Scheme, increasing the amount of renewable energy flowing into the grid.

The Pinsent Masons team on the project was led by Melbourne-based projects partner James Morgan-Payler, with senior associates Lee Jamali and Imogen Rollnik, associate Katie Zhang and graduate lawyer Nicholas Piscioneri.

Commenting on the matter, James Morgan-Payler said: “The HumeLink project is an extremely important one for Australia’s transition to renewable energy. Much has been said about the need for energy infrastructure, such as transmission lines, that support the building of renewable energy sources and maximise their output. The HumeLink project is a great example of unlocking renewables, in this case hydro, through the building of this vital energy infrastructure.”

ACCIONA is a global leader in sustainable infrastructure solutions with an Australian business that has evolved from a history of local companies who have delivered iconic, sustainable projects across Australia for over 100 years.

Genus is an Australian company that specialises in the construction of essential power and communications infrastructure. Genus is a leading ASX-listed provider of EPC services - enabling customers across the country to integrate new generation technology into traditional networks and supporting emerging networking solutions.
