Throughout your training, you will be exposed to different areas of practice to equip you with a well-rounded experience of what legal practice entails. You will receive technical skills training, as well as complementary skills training which will fully equip you for your life as a newly-qualified lawyer and business advisor.

You will attend in-house training sessions organised periodically through the Pinsent Masons Academy. These cover various aspects of legal practice, from black-letter law topics to industry knowledge, client management and people skills. Training will not only be delivered locally, but will include sessions facilitated by lawyers in other Pinsent Masons offices in the region or the UK. Overseas trainers are also engaged to ensure that our lawyers are updated with the latest skills and competencies to thrive in the legal industry.

    Trainee retention

We invest in your training and are keen to do everything possible to enable you to continue your career with us after qualification. Resource planning ensures that you will be given the highest quality of work, stretching you further while allowing you to quickly learn and develop. Our aim is to retain all our Trainees, and we are happy to have had 100% retention since starting the training programme in 2014.

    Continuous professional development

Your development does not stop upon qualification. Instead, you start to focus on becoming a specialist in your chosen area. This is facilitated and supported by bespoke training courses delivered through both your practice area and the Pinsent Masons Academy. This ensures that you will continue to develop the necessary skills to progress further in your career, taking on additional responsibility and driving the success of the business.

    • How many Training Contracts do you offer each year?

Trainee numbers can fluctuate from year to year. Typically, we recruit two trainees each year. We review this annually to ensure we are meeting the needs of the business.

    • Do you offer secondments?

There will be opportunities to work with lawyers and clients across our multi-national network, be it in APAC or beyond. Overseas secondment opportunities may be possible but are guided by business needs and requirements. Our STRIVE programme is available for qualified lawyers looking to spend time in a different jurisdiction.

    • What is your retention rate?

As a Purpose-led business, we're really invested in the success of our Trainee Solicitors. So, we naturally aim to retain you on qualification. We have had 100% retention since starting the training programme in 2014.

    • Do you offer a dual qualification to your trainees?

At the moment, our trainees qualify in Singapore only. However, there might be work driven circumstances that require an individual to qualify in another jurisdiction, which the Firm could consider supporting.

    • Do I have to apply for an internship as well as a training contract?

An internship is not mandatory in securing a Training Contract. However, it will provide you with more in-depth knowledge of the Firm, our culture and values. It also provides the opportunity for us to get to know each other better.

You can apply directly for a Training Contract.

Life as a Projects and Finance Lawyer in Singapore

I am currently a projects and finance lawyer in Singapore. In fact, I just qualified and was newly called to the Singapore bar just two months ago! I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2016 and went on to pursue my Masters in corporate and commercial law at the London School of Economics in 2017. My academic and career interests were always in the realm of transactional work, and my desire to work in an international corporate setting was discovered after internships at international law firms in Hong Kong and Taiwan. I had an offer to work in Hong Kong after graduation but I chose to qualify in Singapore instead so that I can be at home (especially having not been around for the past few years!)
