All UK workers have a right to freedom of expression as set out in Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights. This right, however, is not an absolute right but is limited by the rights of others e.g. the right of a colleague not to suffer harassment or the right of the employer not suffer damage to its brand or reputation. Recent case law has highlighted situations in which employees are protected from adverse reactions to expressing their personal beliefs at work.
